Loving what I do and doing what I love

Oatmeal Bath

Ever since my son has had skin reactions from allergies and eczema I have been interested in finding ways to alleviate his discomfort of rashes and sensitive skin.  The main things I use to help healing my family is through mother earth and nature.  Here are my favorite things the earth gives us that I enjoy using in my bath for helping the skin.

Groats: help sooth skin, lessens the itch.  How and why it works.

Chamomile: Calming effect, soothes the skin. Chamomile health benefits.

Neem: Helps purify the skin.  Why neem?

Lavender: helps take away the itchy feeling. Uses of lavender.

Honey: very healing properties and soothing also.  Honey & skin.

Recipe:

1 1/2 cups of Groats

1/4 of a cup of each Chamomile/Neem leaf/Lavender

Grind all the ingredients into a fine powder and add to the bath.  I will even add this to a lotion sometimes.

Another option is don’t grind, just add to a tea ball, cheese cloth bag, reusable tea bag, or old sock.  Then soak it in your bath water.  Even with ground mixture, the camomile flower petals do not grind or dissolve in the bath and will float on the top.  I usually shower after a bath anyway, but if you usually don’t you might want to get a bag or sock for adding your oatmeal bath mix in.

You can always add essential oils to your bath also.  One warning: if it is not 100% pure, the added chemicals in them might irritate the skin more than help it to heal.  I found that out the hard way.  Now I use doTerra, but young living, and mountain rose herbs are also good sources for pure essential oils.
